Congratulations 2024 Dawbarn Education Award Winners

Each year, ten remarkable individuals are honored as Dawbarn Education Award recipients and receive up to a $10,000 cash award. Recipients are chosen for going above and beyond their formal job responsibilities to make a real and lasting impact on the lives of students in the public schools of Augusta County, Staunton, and Waynesboro.

Created to reward individuals for their work to improve public education, encourage good citizenship, and foster learning among young people in the public schools of Augusta County, Staunton, and Waynesboro, Dawbarn Awards may be given to teachers, guidance counselors, secretaries, bus drivers, custodians, school volunteers, tutors, community leaders, and others who have a positive impact on public education.


2024 Dawbarn Education Award Recipients

  

  • Elizabeth Benbow – Reading Specialist, Stuarts Draft Elementary School
  • Lindsey Britt – Business Teacher and Coach, Special education teacher, Fort Defiance High School
  • Melissa Dull - Choral and theatre director, Fort Defiance High School 
  • Amber Gibson – 3rd grade teacher, William Perry Elementary School 
  • Pam Hewitt – Instructional aide, special education, Riverheads High School
  • Brandy Johnson – 7th Grade, language arts teacher, Shelburne Middle School
  • Jo-El Nelson – AP environmental science, geospatial information system teacher, Shenandoah Valley Governor's School 
  • Eddie Santiago – Teen program director at STAUNTON-AUGUSTA FAMILY YMCA 
  • April Smith – Lead special education teacher and mentor, Riverheads Elementary School
  • Jill Williams – Instructional assistant, Stuarts Draft Elementary School
